Selma
Martin Luther King Jr. was known for his "I have a
dream" speech but before he gave that speech, he was trying to get all of
the African Americans their rights as an American. During a night, some
Africans were beat and one was killed, while King was speaking during the
funeral he mentioned "Our lives are not fully lived if we're not
willing to die for the ones we love and believe". I believe that when they
decided to produce this movie they were trying to express what had truly happened
while they were trying to get their rights, and show how violent this actually
was. While watching this movie; knowing it was based off what had happened in
history and it is showing all of the struggles that many had went through to
get to the place they are now, but I never got too into the movie. It had a
slow beginning and it didn't have anything that pulled me in. My prior
knowledge helped me understand a little more of what was happening but I
actually never realized on how violent things had got while they were trying to
get their Rights. When watching the part where they started the march on
Washington, I never realized how aggressive it got, with the white’s standing
on the side cheering on the Police to beat them and them screaming “Go back to
where you came from”, it honestly gave me the chills. I did state that I wasn’t
a big fan of this movie but it was very insightful on being able to learn a
little bit more about what had happened during that time and how many of white’s
supported and believed in King’s plan and how many didn’t but also getting to
actually be able to have more knowledge of how violent some of the whites had
gotten over the African Americans trying to get their rights as Americans.

The movie was a little boring and slow but I agree that it is insightful on the level of violence used to suppress the African Americans at the time.
ReplyDeleteA lot of what went on in the movie I did not know about, it thought it was interesting and crazy to see the amount of violence on the Blacks.
